Some random insights from the past few days...


  • Sometimes, when I find someone insufferable, my wife does, too. Algorithm IS a latin word, but it's a bastardized version of the original Arabic.

  • Wood stain is like chickenpox for horizontal or vertical surfaces.

  • I really like sushi. As in, if I had the money, I'd eat it every day for lunch.

  • I can tan, much like a rump roast can cook: Eventually.

    Sushi, eh? I like tuna and salmon, so is it anything at all like that?

    @Jeff Roberts:

    Yes and no...there are flavors and textures in the sushi that simply aren't there once the fish is cooked.

    Good sushi is very fresh and doesn't taste "fishy" at all, and it's tremendous with a dip of soy sauce and wasabi.

    Every time I'd eat a bite, Joey and I would grin and say 'waaaaSABI'.

    Wasabi is good.

Easter Pageant?! What is this, amateur hour? Who cares about some piddly church passion play? What's next, "Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever"? Rant: "Holacracy"....Really?

So, Zappos announced that they're moving their whole 1500 person organization to 'Holacracy'.  Why?  Ironically, because of an autocratic decision by the CEO: Last fall, while exploring ways to scale Zappos without letting bureaucracy set in, Hsieh met Brian Robertson, the founder of the management consultancy HolacracyOne.  Ah, this is classic:  The CEO gets sold some snakeoil, the troops have to drink it.  So, what is 'holacracy'.  Is it like 'democracy,' 'theocracy,' and other terms that've been with us since antiquity?
